"The education of women throughout the world cannot fail to result in a more caring, tolerant, just and peaceful life for all"- These words by Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi have been our dictum, as we continue to persevere in our goal for women's education across social, cultural and economic divides.  

 

As the Principal of this veteran institution that has worked in this direction for 70 years, I believe in the two-fold mantra of compassionate leadership and collective action. It is with this conviction that we work towards attaining the ideals of DeshbandhuChittaranjan Das (1870 – 1925), the eponymous father of our college, established in 1955 by three contemporary visionaries of Calcutta - Shri HemendranathDasgupta, Shri Jitesh Chandra Guha and Dr.Sudhir Kumar Mitra.

 

In a competitive milieu, not only do we need to foster the idea of a wholistic development of our women, but also instil in them an ability to combat patriarchy. As a higher educational institution catering to women, I believe that besides academic pursuits, skill development, self- defence and eco-consciousness are aspects that need to be inculcated. I appreciate the dedication and hard work of each of my colleagues and co-workers in effectuating this vision.

 

In a rapidly advancing technological world, it is important to also possess technical knowledge and excellent communicational skills, along with an entrepreneurial acumen. This is what we have set out to achieve through our Value Added Courses, a vibrant NCC and NSS wing, which has represented the college at state and national levels, and our efforts such as “Prayashi”: an incubation cell for woman empowerment.

 

Our girls are taught entrepreneurial and micro-industrial skills, in addition to their regular academic pursuits.Our girls are the backbone of our institution and I welcome, thank and congratulate them for choosing this institution and for becoming a part of our ménage! I wish each of our present and ex students an illustrious career and journey ahead!
